Ubisoft is implementing an anti-cheat update for PC cheaters.
Nine years after its release, Rainbow Six: Siege is about to launch cross-platform play between PC and consoles. The feature will roll out with the Year 9 Season 4 update on December 3, along with an anti-cheat update to combat PC cheaters.
Starting December 3, console players will be able to freely join PC player pools. That being said, PC players will not be able to join host matchmaking pools. If you are teamed up with at least one PC player, the group will move to the PC pool. For console users playing ranked playlists with cross-platform play enabled, they will maintain a different PC rank than the console rank.
Adding cross-platform play to a game that's nearly a decade old requires some consideration, and matchmaking mechanics aren't the only thing to consider. Developer Ubisoft is implementing an anti-cheat update to improve cheater detection to “ensure fairness” when cross-platform play launches. As a result, players who are subject to the “mousetrap penalty,” which is designed to prevent console players from using the mouse and keyboard, will be forced into the PC match pool for 90 days.
If said players turn off cross-platform play, they will not be able to join matches until they turn the option back on. Additionally, any matches where cheaters are detected will be automatically canceled without affecting match ratings. The Reputation Center is undergoing an overhaul to best reflect behaviors that could result in warnings or penalties. According to Ubisoft, details on reputation, rankings, and match replays will be centralized in a new hub, with account statistics coming soon.
The Rainbow Six: Siege Year 9 Season 4 update adds a new operator named Blackbeard who carries the HULL Adaptive Shield, balance changes to the ROU Projector, Thunderbird's Kona Station and Bulletproof Shield, as well as some general tweaks.
