Inin Games and Ys Net have announced that they have acquired the publishing rights to Shenmue 3 from Deep Silver, the game's previous publisher.Inin Games also revealed more plans for Shenmue 3.
“Inin Games is excited to take Shenmue 3 to the next level,” they said in a statement. “This partnership marks the beginning of a new chapter for Shenmue 3, and Inin Games will be working closely with Ys Net to honor the legacy of the series while ensuring that more fans around the world have access to it.”
It's unclear what Inin Games and Ys Net have planned for Shenmue 3, but it could be coming to other platforms like Xbox and Switch. The game has been a PlayStation console exclusive since 2019 thanks to Sony's financial backing for the game.
In 2022, Shakespeare creator Yu Suzuki said that if he had the chance to develop Shakespeare 4, he would make it more approachable. While Shakespeare 3 ended on a cliffhanger, he explained that a sequel could tell a completely different story from the events of that game. Earlier this year, Shakespeare fans briefly made Shakespeare a trending topic on Twitter when they purchased a 15-second ad on a Times Square video billboard to promote Shakespeare 4.
Shakespeare 3 is currently available on PS4 and PC. In GameSpot's review of Shenmue 3, we said, “Unfortunately, while it's intriguing as a quirky artifact of a distant era in gaming, it's not all that fun to play.”
