But using this simple framework as a springboard, this roguelite card game allows you to instantly edit the rules of the game using special Joker cards, arcane spells, and multiplying Planet cards. Strategizing your way through increasingly difficult “blinds” and higher point requirements is satisfying because it makes you feel like you're splitting the game in half, and that the game will get tougher the next time around. When this inevitably happens, you'll need to remain vigilant and modify your deck throughout the game to meet the new challenge. Jokers that may have seemed useless before may suddenly dawn on you as you take advantage of their unique strategies. Every time you make it to the end - or more likely fail - it's hard not to start another hand and begin again.
Baldur's Gate 3
The triumphant return of the traditional CRPG series is also one of the best games of 2023. Before Your Eyes
One of the most innovative games in recent memory, Before Your Eyes has a simple premise of controlling the entire experience with your eyes via webcam. It's a short game that chronicles the life of a recently deceased person you play as, but the problem here is that every time you blink, time moves forward. It's a great idea, very well executed, and fits perfectly with the theme of memory, life, and depositing those precious moments in our hearts. It's unusual, but the emotional impact is huge and you won't want to take your eyes off this game for a moment.
The Case of the Golden Idol
The Case of the Golden Idol is a classic point-and-click adventure game and a rigorous puzzle game. Players need to investigate scenes and then piece together what happened in the linear storytelling by placing names and verbs in the right places. If the original game whetted your appetite, developer Color Gray Games has also released an additional “Mystery of the Golden Statue” DLC - a new story and mystery with the same narrative building mechanics.
